Everything I Ate In Fort Lauderdale

I never thought that Fort Lauderdale of all places would be at the top of my list for favourite food, but here we are! We booked this trip very last minute, but it was everything what we needed and more — including the meals.

SPUDS COFFEE

We started every day at Spuds, a little coffee shop that was a 20 minute walk from our place. Originally, I just wanted a matcha, but I saw an old man eating a fried egg and I decided we needed to sit down and eat in. Eggs and home-fries are truly the best food combination, so simple, so magical — especially these ones. Spuds lives up to its name because it has the best homefries I’ve ever had.

CASA SENSEI

Casa Sensei on Las Olas Blvd is very unique. It’s a Latin-Japanese fusion restaurant with smaller, sharable plates packed full of flavour. The waiter was so knowledgable and reassuring with all my dietary restrictions, so I felt safe the whole time. To start, we devoured the Lobster Guacamole, comprised of seared lobster tail, house-made guac, and malanga chips, along with the Charred Octopus, which came with a papaya mango salad, and finished with the yummiest Salt and Pepper Prawns. They sent us on our way with a giant tower of cotton candy.

BLUE MOON FISH CO.

I’m just going to say it: Blue Moon was home to my favourite meal. The Mahi Mahi Tacos were way too perfect (even though I had to take off the queso and avocado crema because they contained dairy), and the cranberry sorbet for desert sealed the deal. But even with the things I didn't get to include in the taco, it was still the best taco I ever had. Ever. It’s really hard for me to eat tacos at restaurants. If a corn-based taco shell or tortilla is made on the same surface, or comes into any contact for that matter, with a wheat-based one, I’d get really ill. Cross contamination is usually the deterrent for many types of foods that are theoretically safe for me. But at Blue Moon, they made their tacos right, and I ate every last bite.

TACOCRAFT

As I mentioned, it isn’t easy for me to eat tacos, and unfortunately, Tacocraft was not the exception to my dilemma, unlike Blue Moon. But, Tacocraft had the best Chopped Salad. I added grilled shrimp, and omitted the torilla strips because of the cross contamination. It was a beautiful salad in a beautiful location.

SEA WATCH

Sea Watch was good, but just good. The Roasted Salmon I ordered was very tasty, but it was nothing spectacular. The atmosphere and service, however, was one of my favourite, so I’m betting that anyone who doesn’t have any dietary restrictions would have an even better experience than I did.

KALUZ

We ended our trip at Kaluz, and we made it count. The menu seemed daunting and not very me-friendly, but the kitchen staff were incredibly accommodating. Their fries are made in a dedicated fryer, and because that’s a rarity, it meant that I absolutely needed to get the fries. For my main dish, I ordered the Kaluz Chilean Seabass, paired with tomatoes, artichoke hearts, and asparagus. It was market price, but worth every penny.

I think I ate the best on this trip than any other trip I’ve been on. The fresh seafood made me feel energized and satisfied, and I can’t wait to do it all again soon.
